Red Vic Lectures : Eclipse Wisdom

Mon Jul 3 8 PM until 10 PM , red victorian

Organized by creon levit, Zarinah Agnew

This week, Creon Levit comes to join us for a well timed lecture on the “Great American Eclipse”.

The first total solar eclipse visible from the continental US since 1979 - is happening in about three weeks. I hope you’re going to go see it. An obsession of mine since childhood, eclipses are arguably “the greatest show on earth”. August 21st 2017 will be my eighth total solar eclipse, weather permitting._

This talk will be a fast-paced visual survey covering the following topics:

a few notable eclipses
* eclipse prediction: celestial mechanics
* eclipse prediction: cultural perspectives
* viewing a partial eclipse
* viewing a total eclipse
* upcoming eclipses

If you’re planning to observe the upcoming total solar eclipse (or just have a general interest in astronomy) I encourage you to attend this talk to help maximize your safety, and your enjoyment, of one of the grandest spectacles in Nature.

Bio: Creon Levit worked for NASA Ames Research Center for over 30 years, in the fields of aeronautics, scientific visualization. molecular physics, orbital mechanics, and space mission design. He recently left NASA to work on new projects at Planet Labs.

Drinks at 8pm - do please bring and contribute :) Talk starts at 8.30pm on the dot! As always, we provide childcare, either in home or here at the Red Vic, drop us a line if you'd like to use it!
